Codfish Allergy Test

This IgE antibody allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to codfish (Cod).

The Atlantic cod is one of the world's most important food fish; it is sold fresh, frozen, smoked, salted or canned.

The scientific name for cod is Gadus morhua, and it is a finfish. Finfish allergies are fairly common. 

An allergic reaction to codfish can occur after consumption or through simply coming into contact with it; allergic reactions to finfish have even occurred after kissing someone who recently consumed the fish.

If you experience an allergic reaction after consuming codfish, consider a possible reaction to the histamine found in spoiled fish, this is called scombroid fish poisoning.

The protein found in codfish which often causes an allergic reaction is called parvalbumin. This is not a protein that is able to be cooked out, it will cause a reaction whether raw or cooked.
