About Our Estrone Test
This test measures the amount of Estrone in the blood.
Estrone is a female sex hormone that forms in the glands and fatty tissue, as well as in the ovaries. It is considered the weakest of the 3 types of estrogen. Estrogen is also 1 of the 2 main sex hormones in females, the other being progesterone.
The three types of estrogen are:
- Estrone (E1)
- Estradiol (E2)
- Estriol (E3)
Estrone is also the only form of estrogen that a body continues to naturally produce after menopause. Postmenopausal people typically have higher estrone levels than premenopausal individuals. Males, and people designated male at birth also have estrone, however, their levels are much lower than people designated female at birth.

- Thickening the uterine lining to prepare for fertilization
In both genders, Estrone plays a key role in:
- Bone Health.
- Cognitive Function.
- Production of nitric oxide (molecules that assists blood vessels to open).
