About Our Ginger Allergy Test

This IgE allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to ginger.

Ginger is a tuber that is commonly used worldwide as a spice. In Western countries, Ginger is widely used for culinary purposes in gingerbread, biscuits, cakes, puddings, soups and pickles. It is also used in the production of ginger beer and ginger ale. Ginger is one of the most widely used spices in Oriental cookery, either on its own or as a flavoring and is often used in curry powders. Pickled ginger often accompanies sushi.

When your body produces an allergic reaction, it is mistakenly identifying something you’ve come into contact with as harmful. The protein in ginger that is more commonly identified as harmful is also found in cardamom and turmeric. If you have a ginger allergy, you should also be tested for other spice allergies.

An allergy to spice is fairly uncommon, but typical ginger allergic reactions are skin related, including:

  • Inflammation
  • Rash
  • Redness

However, even less commonly, other allergy symptoms can occur, such as:

  • Coughing
  • Swollen throat
  • Oral irritation
  • Congestion
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain

In extremely severe allergic reactions, anaphylaxis can occur. Anaphylaxis will involve difficulty breathing, swallowing, and remaining conscious. This is considered a medical emergency, and medical attention should be found immediately.
