Tangerine Allergy Test

This IgE allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to tangerine.

Citrus Allergies are fairly uncommon, but when they are present, symptoms can be extremely severe. A Tangerine is a mandarin orange hybrid and thus a type of citrus fruit. Citrus fruits include the following:

• Limes
• Lemons
• Oranges
• Grapefruits

Citrus allergies can be airborne or more commonly, symptoms are localized based on skin contact. Localized symptoms include:

• Tingling
• Itching
• Redness
• Swelling
• Burning

Contact Dermatitis is when symptoms occur by merely coming into contact with the peel of citrus fruit.

Oral allergy syndrome (OAS) is when symptoms only occur when orally coming into contact with citrus (raw) but usually it’s okay to consume cooked citrus. Citrus OAS normally occurs unexpectedly later in life.

There are rare cases of citrus causing anaphylaxis or a systematic allergic reaction. This can be life-threating. The following symptoms are brought about by citrus anaphylaxis:

• Difficulty breathing
• Hives
• Nausea
• Vomiting/Diarrhea
• Drop in blood pressure

Most citrus allergies are caused by cross-reactivity to a pollen allergy. The body will mark certain proteins that are found in pollen as harmful, and then it will mistake proteins found in citrus as pollen.
