Vitamin K1 Test

This test is used to determine Vitamin K1 (Phylloquinone) deficiencies. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for blood clotting, and plays an important role in building bones and preventing heart disease. Having a deficiency of vitamin K can increase the risk of uncontrolled internal or external bleeding.

Deficient vitamin K levels can lead to:

• Osteoporosis/Weak bones
• Bleeding/Thin blood that doesn't clot well
• Easily bruising and mucosal bleeding

Vitamin K deficiency can be more prevalent in people who:

• Have a vitamin D deficiency
• Have a fat malabsorption issue
• Have celiac disease, Crohn's disease or cystic fibrosis
• Use Coumadin anticoagulants, like Warfarin
• Have alcoholism

Major vitamin K sources include:

• Leafy green vegetables
• Broccoli
• Brussels sprouts
